Curriculum Development

  • What is instructional design? Instructional design is the process by which learning experiences and products are designed, developed, and delivered. Learning products may include online courses, instructional manuals, video tutorials, learning simulations, and the like. Instructional designers are the "architects" of the learning experience and the "directors" of the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process. The terms "instructional design," "instructional technology," "learning experience (LX) design," "curriculum development," and "instructional systems design (ISD)" are often used interchangeably.
  • What is a Flipped Classroom? The Flipped Classroom is a blended learning model in which traditional ideas about classroom activities and homework are reversed, or flipped. In this model, instructors have students interact with (consume) new material for homework first. They then use class time to discuss the new information and put those ideas into practice, using active learning strategies.
  • How do I develop learning objectives? Learning objectives are brief statements that describe what students should be able to do by the end of a unit, module, project, or lecture. Learning objectives are the interim academic goals that educators establish for students who are working toward meeting more-comprehensive course or curriculum-level standards.
