Hi everyone! My name is Melanie Turner and I am from Warrenton, VA. I went to Virginia Tech for undergrad and majored in Biology with a minor in Animal & Poultry Sciences and Entomology. Since being a student at Virginia Tech for undergrad, VMCVM was always my top choice for Veterinary School. The feeling of community and belonging here in Blacksburg, VA is something that is unmatched to other schools and campuses. We're not just students; we are a tight-knit group of aspiring professionals that enjoy supporting each other's journeys and watching each other grow. What sets VMCVM apart for me is the invaluable hands-on learning experiences through live animal labs. Some students at other schools do not have hands-on experiences for months or even a year after they begin Veterinary School. We are provided hands on learning within the first few weeks of starting the DVM curriculum. The professors here are not just educators but also mentors, always willing to guide students. The array of clubs and organizations allows you to become more involved with your interests with other like minded people. I am a dual DVM/MPH student and I will be tracking the Public/Corporate track as I am interested in other areas of veterinary medicine outside of a clinical setting. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have about Blacksburg, VMCVM, the campus as a whole, or even about the dual DVM/MPH program!
