Bio

Hello!

My name is Abby Tyree and I'm from a small town just south of Lynchburg, VA. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2022, and earned my Bachelor's degree in Animal and Poultry Sciences with an equine and companion animal emphasis. I found a love for equine medicine while working at a mixed animal clinic before attending vet school and plan to pursue the equine track. Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy running, kayaking, and hunting.

I chose VMCVM for many different reasons. Because I went to Virginia Tech for undergrad, I became familiarized with the school and the curriculum over time and knew that VMCVM was a place I could see myself continuing my professional education. When researching schools to apply to, I wanted a school that had a teaching hospital, so I wouldn't have to travel to another hospital/location for all of my clinical blocks. Additionally, I really enjoyed the "small town feel" of the Blacksburg area while in undergrad and was fine with spending another four years here!

My favorite thing about being a VMCVM student is how the curriculum is designed. Going into vet school, I was uneasy about having a ten credit course every eight weeks. Now that I've experienced it, I think the curriculum is designed in a very logical way to allow for our knowledge to build upon itself and focus on one "system" at a time. Also, problem solving is highly emphasized and built in to each course, and although it can sometimes be very challenging, I believe that learning how to problem solve early on will be beneficial when the time comes for clinical rotations.

If you have any questions at all, even just about Blacksburg itself, please reach out to me! My email is abbymrob15@vt.edu
